WebMay 21, 2009 · Dan, I use a steel to sharpen my knife but also take it (every few months) to get it professionally sharpened. I shouldn't say "I" take it, my husband does; to the butcher. I've never used an electric knife sharpener, but I'm pretty protective of my knife so I'd be a little afraid of messing it up. That fear might be irrational though.
